What is Maple Leaf School?

How does online learning work at MLS?

Once you register through our website, you will have 24hours/7days access to your online course. Use your username login and password to access the learning management system. You can learn at your own pace and progress through the interactive lessons, and practice quizzes. When you are ready, you can complete the unit evaluations and submit them into the drop box for your teacher to evaluate and provide feedback. All unit evaluations are completed and submitted online. You can type out your answers, do them on paper and scan them or take a picture of your handwritten work as submission of the evaluations. After you receive a grade and feedback, you can then proceed to the next unit and complete the course step by step. You have to complete the course within 12 months.

What is the Refund Policy?

Maple Leaf School does not issue refunds. Within hours of enrolment, our administration undertakes many tasks including activating the student account, completing the enrolment, contracting the teacher, establishing electronic/physical files, tracking the enrolment for Ministry purposes, etc. Even if the student does not begin the course, the preliminary work in our office will be completed.

What does the course cost?

What is a proctored final exam?

Some courses require students to write a final exam at the end of the course. This exam must be written in the presence of an approved proctor either in-person at the MLS office or offsite. A proctor is a professional (teacher, doctor, lawyer, accountant, etc) who meets with the student. The date, time, place, and proctor for a student’s final exam are selected by the student but must be approved by the MLS office.

Option 1: With a Proctor
The student may select a proctor to meet with in person for the purpose of invigilating the exam. The student must apply to write the final exam a minimum of two weeks* prior to the proposed exam date by submitting a Proctor Approval Application to the MLS Exams Administrator. When the proctor is approved, the proctor will be provided with detailed exam instructions and proctor form via email. The approved proctor and student may then proceed with the final exam as scheduled. Once the final exam has been written, the proctor must send the test or exam back to the teacher as a scanned, clearly legible document. If a student chooses a proctor who charges a fee for their services, the student is responsible for those or any other expenses.

Option 2: Written in the MLS office
The student may choose to write the final exam in the MLS office. All students need to do is send an email to contact@mapleleafschool.ca and make the arrangements directly with the staff.

If I am registered at another high school, can I still take an online credit course with MLS?

Yes, students do not require permission from their home school or school board to take any course. When you have successfully finished the course with us, we will send you one copy of the report card and a second copy will be forwarded to your home school. Your home school will then add this credit to your ongoing transcript. Upon request, MLS can also forward your marks directly to the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC).

Will my course be recognized by universities and colleges?

Yes. As a ministry of Ontario inspected institution, all credits offered from Maple Leaf School are accepted by every college and university in Canada and around the world. Online courses are valued the same as a course taken at a physical school location.

What Does It Mean to Be “Full-Time” With MLS?

Our flexible model means that the majority of our students are considered part-time (i.e. only taking 1-3 courses). A full-time student must register for a minimum of 4 credit courses with MLS and MLS will issue a request for Ontario Student Record (OSR) from the previous school or establishing a new OSR.

Can MLS Graduate Me and Can I get an OSSD with Maple Leaf School?

Yes. We are fully inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education and are therefore eligible to issue the OSSD to students who satisfy its requirements through our school. Eligible students must complete a minimum of 6 credits through Maple Leaf School. Also:

What Is The OSSLT? Do I Still Have to Complete This Requirement If I Study Online Through MLS?

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is a standardized test that all secondary school students must successfully complete in order to receive their OSSD. This test measures whether or not students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9.

The test is administered by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) only once each year, meaning all students across the province write this test on the same date, usually a day in late March.

How Can I Write My OSSLT Through MLS?

Yes, full-time MLS students who have never previously attempted the OSSLT are eligible to write the test at our Toronto office. For students writing in-office, a $150 fee will apply. For non-local students, they may elect to write the test at an alternative location. This location must be pre-approved by both the EQAO office and MLS. For students who choose to write the test off-site, a $350 will apply. Students who were unsuccessful in previous writings of the OSSLT will be considered eligible to take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OLC4O) to satisfy the OSSD’s literacy requirement.

I Am an Out-Of-Province, Or International Student. Can I Study Through MLS?
