Apply for UK G5 Universities; A level is not required
OSSD students do not need preparatory courses or A-Level exams to apply for British universities. The OSSD education system has a high reputation among top universities in the UK. The application density through OSSD channels is low and the admission rate is high. Taking Oxford University as an example, Chinese students must have A-Level or other international course scores to apply, while OSSD students do not.

Apply for USA Universities; GPA is the advantage
U.S. top schools are always highly competitive. This year, more and more attention has been paid to the GPA. OSSD students’GPA is not only highly recognized by universities, but it is easier for them to get high scores than Chinese education systems and other international systems. Their application has obvious advantages. At the same time, students can greatly shorten the SAT preparation time and easily get high scores by taking OSSD courses for SAT-free schools.

Apply for Australia Universities; No need for IELTS/ Preparatory courses
Chinese high school students apply for Australian colleges and universities need to have 5.5 in IELTS in order to take universities’ preparatory courses. The direct admission requires 6.5, while OSSD students do not need IELTS at all. They only need to replace IELTS 6.5 with a grade 12 English score of 50-60 and get direct admission to the university. Preparatory course and additional language courses are not required.

Ontario Student Record (OSR) for the International Student
An Ontario Student Record (OSR) must exist for every student registered in a school in Ontario. In order for any student to take an online course with Maple Leaf School, an OSR must either exist or be established. The OSR is a physical file folder containing all official school records for a student, such as transcripts, community service records, Ontario literacy records, report cards, IEPs, and other important information pertaining to the student’s education. In order to establish the OSR, MLS requires that the student provide the following documentation:
1. Identification
The student must forward a copy of their official ID to MLS (passport or birth certificate). Identification must be provided in the English or French language, or be accompanied by a notarized English translation.
2. Official International Transcripts
When taking a course that requires a prerequisite, Maple Leaf School requires a copy of the student’s official transcript to prove he or she has met the equivalent of the prerequisite course requirement. The student must forward his or her official transcript to MLS. If the student’s transcript is not written in English, an English translation of the transcript along with the original must be submitted to MLS
3. English Requirement
All courses at Maple Leaf School are delivered in English. Proficiency in English is a requirement of all students who take courses with Maple Leaf School. Students may be required to complete the English Language Placement Assessment in order to determine their English level.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Courses
These courses are designed for English language learners who have had opportunities to develop language and literacy skills in their own language appropriate to their age
or grade level. Most English language learners are in this group. These learners may be entering secondary school from elementary school alongside their English-speaking peers, or they may be entering secondary school in Ontario having recently arrived from other countries. They can read and write in their own language within the expected range for students of their age in their own country. They can build on their existing first-language skills when learning English in an ESL program.
The five ESL courses are based on levels of proficiency in English. Depending on learners’ previous experience with English, students may be placed in ESL Level 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. For example, a student who has been in full-time education in his or her country of origin but who has never studied English would be placed in ESL Level 1. A student who has been in full-time education in his or her own country and has studied some English might be placed in ESL Level 2 or 3 on the basis of the initial English language assessment. A student who has studied English for several years might be placed in ESL Level 3, 4, or 5 on the basis of the initial English language assessment. Students of Grade 9 age whose initial assessment indicates that they are beyond ESL Level 4 (ESLDO) should be placed directly in Grade 9 Applied English (ENG1P) or Grade 9 Academic English (ENG1D).

English Literacy Development (ELD) Courses
These courses are designed for English language learners with limited prior schooling who have not had opportunities to develop age-appropriate literacy skills in any language. These students are from areas of the world where educational opportunities have not been consistently available. Their needs differ in the following two important ways from the needs of their English language learner peers who arrive with age-appropriate schooling:
They have significant gaps in their education and therefore have more to catch up on. They need more intensive support for a longer period of time.
ELD courses provide an accelerated program of literacy development for these students.
There are five ELD courses based on levels of literacy development and proficiency in English. Depending on learners’ previous educational experience, first-language literacy skills, and knowledge of English, students may be placed in ELD Level 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. For example, a newly arrived student with no prior formal schooling and no first-language literacy skills would be placed in ELD Level 1. A student with some prior schooling and some knowledge of English might be placed in ELD Level 2 or 3.
